IELTS Life Skills
IELTS Life Skills is a special test designed for UK visa and immigration purposes. It assesses only speaking and listening skills at levels A1, A2, and B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Who Needs It?
- IELTS Life Skills A1: Spouse/partner visa applicants.
- IELTS Life Skills A2: Visa extension for family route (only required in the UK).
- IELTS Life Skills B1: UK citizenship or indefinite leave to remain (ILR).
Test Format
- Duration: 16–22 minutes
- Skills Tested: Listening and Speaking only
- Test Conduct: Taken with another candidate in a face-to-face format with an examiner.
- Task Types:
- Answering personal and everyday questions
- Discussing a topic with the other candidate
- Listening to and responding to spoken information
- Planning an activity with the other candidate
Assessment Criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively in everyday situations.
- Listening comprehension and ability to respond appropriately.
- Interaction with another candidate.
- Pronunciation and clarity of speech.
