“Day 3 of 100: Learn English.”

Subject and Predicate

Every sentence is divided into two main parts:

1. Subject

The subject is the part of the sentence that tells us who or what the sentence is about. It identifies the person, place, thing, or idea being discussed.

Example: The children are playing in the park.

In this example, The children is the subject because it indicates who the sentence is about.

2. Predicate

The predicate is the part of the sentence that provides information about the subject. It describes what the subject does, has, is, or experiences.

Example: The children are playing in the park.

Here, are playing in the park is the predicate because it tells us what the children are doing.

Additional Examples:

1. Subject: The cat | Predicate: is sleeping on the sofa.

2. Subject: Our teacher | Predicate: gave us homework today.

3. Subject: The sun | Predicate: rises in the east.

4. Subject: My friends and I | Predicate: went to the cinema yesterday.

5. Subject: This book | Predicate: contains interesting stories.
